Skug.at musik kultur ( Germany ) reviews Carlton Melton Live Europe 2023

Carlton Melton is at home in California and the musical heritage of the region is their mission. They play instrumental West Coast Jam Rock. The recipe for this original soup goes back to classics like Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Grateful Dead, the middle byrds and obscure bands of that time like Fraction and many others that Patrick Lundborg brought together in »The Acid Archives«. Carlton Melton enriches their psychedelic cocktail with a pinch of Japrock à la Flower Travellin' Band and a touch of Hawkwind and in this musical neighborhood there are quite a few contemporary bands that do the same.

Psych Lovers Top 20 AOTY 2023 from The Fragmented Flaneur

‘Last Times’ begins with some lovely, soulful kosmische vibes and gradually sinks heavier and heavier, before finishing on a lighter note once again. This leads perfectly into ‘Migration’, a purely electronic track.

If the final track, ‘Mutiny’, doesn’t get you up dancing round the room, then I don’t know what will. It’s a 16-minute-long banger and is a perfect finish to a truly excellent album.

‘Turn to Earth’ is a sonic journey that captivates from start to finish. Carlton Melton have shown once again that they really are masters of creating music that transcends the ordinary.

KRIPTON, follows the lives of six young people who are hospitalized in two psychiatric communities in the suburbs of Rome. They all suffer from personality disorders and states of deep alteration. They share their struggles with us and while the meetings take place in a time of emotional stability, often obtained through prescription drugs, they are still tormented by intense crises. The film’s goal is to show their everyday life, documenting their behaviours, interactions and struggles.

Directed by Francesco Munzi and produced by Cinemaundici in collaboration with Rai Cinema.
