Psych Insight Music - Psych Lovers Top Twenty Albums of 2018

3. Carlton Melton – Mind Minerals (Agitated Records)

In terms of pace the overall feel of the album is that of a venerable old wooden roller coaster with steady climbs that reveal breath-taking views before turning into long thrilling descents through sound and space. The changing pace and variety of textures are indeed a tonic for the mind; a meditation of gently picked guitar, pounding tribal drums, spacey synth, hypnotic drone and scorching fuzz.

28. Carlton Melton : Mind Minerals

Carlton Melton have never shied away from longform exploratory records. Even the shorter LPs had one or two epic mind melters to soundtrack some serious contemplation. Their last full-length LP was 2015s Out To Sea, a double LP filled with both gas-guzzling muscle car rock ‘n rollers as well as zone-out psych ambient that is built for hazy basement ponderings in bean bag chairs and oversized Koss headphones perched on your noggin. With Mind Minerals, these Cali fuzz kings go full throttle into the expanse of space. “Electrified Sky” feels like Spacemen 3 trying their hand of AOR riff rock, while “Basket Full Of Trumpets” has the feel of some deep forest ritual under the blood moon. You wanna get lost in a cloud of smoke and haze? Hit play on the epic and ethereal “Atmospheric River”. This song encompasses the best of the 60s, 70s, and deep space rock with that dense and dank beauty only Carlton Melton have the recipe for.

Carlton Melton plays this Sat October 13th at the Knockout in San Francisco with Buffalo Tooth and Chaki… early show 4-8pm !!!VVVVVVVVV

Buffalo Tooth - …From raved up psychedelic trips, to jangling East Coast melodies and thrashing punk rippers and everywhere in between Buffalo Tooth not only walk the walk, they talk the talk and seem to understand a few fundamental things about music most musicians are missing out on. Not bound to any flagship style or sound, Buffalo Tooth is free to continue creating their own music with out the expectations or interference from the world around them, and that’s the way it should be… ( psychedelic baby magazine )..

Chaki - .. Chaki is a funky alien wizard from Outer Space hailing from the planet Chaka 12. With his unique take on electro punk bass thump, he has brought his weird ass stage show to festivals like Noise Pop and has opened up for like minded weirdos Peelander Z, Bob Log III, Metalachi, Captured By Robots and The Oingo Boingo Dance Party. Rolling Stone said he is like Prince except not sexy and much fatter.. https://chaki.bandcamp.com/
